Let us remember that animals are not mere resources for human consumption. They are splendid beings in their own right, who have evolved alongside us as co-inheritors of all the beauty and abundance of life on this planet.

– Marc Bekoff

Recently I wrote a book preview of Tora Holmberg’s book Urban Animals: Crowding in zoocities. I will disappoint you since this review is available only in Croatian as I wrote it for Narodna umjetnost, Croatian Journal of Ethnology and Folklore Research, Volume 58, No. 2, 2021.

I will not translate it here, but the book explores the multitude of human/animal relations in the urban environments and how those constellations create situations both for and against humans and animals. We are both sharing the space, this crowded zone, where only humans consider that they have the right to be there, usually overseeing and pushing out other species.

Eventually, we are all pushed out once and unfortunately/ fortunately, the value of that personal experience has been often the highest. As one wise human said – something will make you see – your intention or the life-threatening accident – but eventually it will lead you to see, hear, some little pieces of the truth.

Stay curious, explore Natures, open up your creative channels!

Love and thanks,

Ivana

Ivana Filip’s collection of works and products is inspired by her research, affect and close coexistence with nonhumans. Works in the shop as such represent the extension of her artistic practice. Hopefully these artworks and products can contribute to your richer experience and relationship with nonhumans or perhaps make your dear one jollier. Every month we shall donate 10% of our monthly income to a non-profit dedicated to the protection of nonhumans in Croatia.
