Memento Mori | 2022

gold sculpture with crickets

Memento Mori started with the material, cricket cuticle. When I saw the first one, I was mesmerized by its precision, beauty and emptiness – there was no body, no being, but it looked alive too. I was collecting them imagining creating something beautiful. I felt the need to offer myself something timeless even though these shells are very delicate. Did you know that crickets go through six to eight processes of molting, skin shedding in order to get bigger?

This exoskeleton is a reminder of transformation and a memento of a life cycle.
